- The Cowichan
Adult Learning Centre is committed to
providing quality programs for adults that
are flexible and learner-centred, with the
goal of improving literacy levels,
employability, and achieving graduation.
- Our courses
are offered in two delivery models. We offer
regularly scheduled, teacher-led classes
starting in September, January and April.
All courses are also offered in a self-paced
delivery model.
- Students who
need to build their skills before entering
the graduation program can take advantage of
our upgrading program in English and
Mathematics. We can also help students with
the prerequisites needed for college,
university or other training programs.
- Our centers
are located in Duncan and Chemainus.
- If you are a
non-graduate our courses are tuition-free.
We offer continual intake from September
through June.

- A full time (30 hrs.
per week) 12 week, life and employment skills
program for youth.
- Open to youth
between the ages of 16-30, who want to increase
their skills, are not employed, not in school, and
not eligible for Employment
Insurance.
- 10 youth are paid to
learn from 2 instructors, and from each other, in a
casual and respectful group setting.
- Content includes:
self awareness, communication skills, problem
solving, decision making, conflict resolution,
identifying strengths and weaknesses,
goal setting, values identification, interview and
job search skills, resume writing, presentation
skills, self-esteem and leadership.

Yuthuy'thut Friendship
Native Centre started in 1990 as a stepping stone
for Cowichan adults over 18 to upgrade their
education as a step towards getting meaningful
employment and a better standard of living.
Recently, a special focus has been on improving
literacy.
All Cowichan Tribes members and their extended
families are eligible to participate in the Program.
The core service is a 10-month program that runs
from September to June, providing instruction in a
variety of
academic courses:
- English, Math, Science, Native Studies, Computers,
P.E., Hul'q'umi'num' Language, Life Skills.
- Students can enroll anytime and take up to 3 years
to complete.
Yuthuy'thut also provides work experience and
contracted courses in Cashier Training, First Aid,
Super Host, Food Safe, Beginner Server Training,
WHMIS and Squirrel.
All teachers at Yuthuy'thut are members of the B.C.
College of Teachers and most of them are Cowichan
Tribes members.
Our enrollment is 45 students in Teen Program (13 to
17 years old) - 58 students in Adult Program (18
years and up).
